View Full Version : Tired of losing

My friend has a deck that I just can't beat. He wipes the floor with me every time we play. Just to clarify--we don't play tournaments or do anything too terribly serious, we just play with whatever cards we have in a gigantic box given to us by his cousin. He recently made a deck that uses 100% artifacts, most of them 0 mana cost or affinity for artifacts, making them free. So it's not uncommon for him to on the first turn play 5 cards and then go top deck on the second turn. Anyway--he gets out Cranial Plating and either equips it on a Ferropede or puts it on some other creature and combines it with Whispersilk Cloak....either way he's dealing 10+ unblockable damage to me by turn 3 or 4 and I'm just dead meat the second turn after he gets out that combo because even if do manage to somehow destroy one of his many artifacts in his combo, the rest of his deck doesn't suck and he can just kill me through sheer attrition.

Here's my dilemma: I HATE the idea of creating a deck that is simply an "anti-artifact" deck. What's the point of making a deck whose sole purpose is to defeat a different deck? Then all he has to do is play me with a different deck of his and when mine has no artifacts to destroy his kills me horribly. I'm not sure how to go about making a balanced deck that is simply better than his, or at least can kill his and maybe hold its own against other decks.

Any suggestions? I'm open to buying cards over the internet, if need be.

You should look into a combo burn/artifact removal deck. Some cards that would go in the deck could possibly include:

Smash to Smithereens
Burn Trail
etc.

Well you don't have to go artifact hate to get this, but you should use control of some sort in general. A good start is removal, of any sort. Creature removal will be a good start because it will be beneficial against a most decks you'll likely see.

Burn is a good idea for spot removal quickly and has the nice advantage of going to the dome an not being a dead card. Lightning Bolt is a prime Red burn card. Though it's harder to get rid of bigger creatures with this approach.

I like White's creature removal with Path to Exile, Swords to Plowshares, and Wrath of God tricks. White also has Disenchant to balance out the suite. I would def. look into cards like the Swords. Something cheap and instant.

Splashing Green or Black could be good. Green for good artifact and enchantment hate and Black is good to get rid of the creatures.

Another card to look into thats all around for any match is Engineered Explosives. You can set this for 0 and explode for 2 colorless all 0 costing permanents (this includes tokens-tokens = 0). And if you play more than one color, which I favor, you will get to explode all sorts of things.

Just play with answers basically.

Hope that start helps,

Fracturing Gust? Destroy all Enchantments and Artifacts, you gain 2 life for each enchantment or artifact destroyed this way.

It may do nice against an artifact deck.
