If there is one ROE card that I feel gets left out a lot, it's Mortician Beetle. Every time I draft, it passes through at least twice before being picked. In sealed, all the complaints I heard were, "Aww, I got Mortician Beetle!" (Well, that and "Aww, I got Sphinx-Bone Wand!") So I beseech you, make a deck focused around the lowly beetle. He deserves it, don't you think?
Here are the requirements:
1. Your deck must include a playset of Mortician Beetle.
2. Your deck must be legal in T2.
3. Your deck must include, but is not limited to, the color black.
I judge on realism, mana curve, consistency, functionality, playability, and a few other big technical words. Good luck.

http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=65580 - essentially you build up mortician beetle while simultaneously damaging the player with stoutarm then you throw mortician beetle and it's all over

I built this deck, but never played it. May actually run it tonight for FNM though. I do like the Idea from a previous post of adding Soulfire. Might do that in the final build.

I thoroughly play-tested each deck, and I found that ATRiUS' deck (http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=60768) was by far the best. It consistently got Mortician Beetle huge by turn 5, and Canopy Cover, a card that I thought wasn't a good fit, turned out to win the game frequently. (I would have used Whispersilk Cloak myself, actually, but whatever.) It made good use of Consuming Vapors, and the addition of Momentus Fall was nice. There is only one thing I didn't like and would change: Gatekeeper of Malakir's :manab::manab::manab: cost is hard to pull off. I would replace it with Death Cultist (or even Demonic Appetite), or maybe Pawn of Ulamog, but he's also color intensive. Other than that, your deck is fun, and powerful, and is the winner of the Mortician Beetle deck contest.

Woohoo! Thanks so much.
I do agree about Gatekeeper of Malakir. I actually tried demonic appetite, but I think in order for this card to be effective, it needs to be played mid-late to late game.
I did think about death cultist, I do like him, interesting option. I thought pawn of ulamog, but when I'm starting to trigger sac abilities by tokens.. he doesn't come into consideration too much. But Gatekeeper of Malakir is something that almost indefinitely needs to be replaced, I just gotta find that one card... (story of my life, ha).
@ the canopy cover comment - I know, right? I had whispersilk cloak originally too, but it took two turns on average to get it attached to something. I like canopy cover, I'm all about putting cards you wouldn't expect to do well in decks. Makes use of my whole collection!
Overall, glad you liked the deck! It's a lot of fun to play with. Thanks so much! :D

i think this is a pretty good attempt at a deck, large mana accelleration to get up to spawnsire and skittering invasion, swing with the beetle and sac everything for massive damage.

all I have to say. It's a card designed for Eldrazi and Eldrazi spawn. Play it against an Eldrazi spawn ramp deck and it's a deadly creature.
