Every deck is based around certain cards working with others to produce desired effects. By vastly limiting the number of cards available to a player, you can break apart the cohesion of an opponent's deck, leaving him/her with nothing but odds and ends. Add onto that the ability to turn your opponent's discarded cards into damage, and damage from your opponent's creatures into discarded cards and loss of life, and you find yourself with a distinct advantage over any opponent.

...Plus it's just fun as hell to tell your opponent to discard half their deck lol.

Very interesting. I'm new to magic, so I have a couple of questions. When you have them remove cards from their library into their graveyard (such as Mind Funeral), is this considered a discard event? The first deck I made is a blue/black Discard Deck that centers around returning cards to my opponent's hand, using Warped Devotion to cause them to discard a card, and Megrim to deal damage to the player. I like a few of your cards that cause them to 'discard' cards on their library, but wasn't sure if they are considered discards.

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately, no. Having an opponent remove cards from their library and put them into their graveyard is not discarding. One thing it's great for though is

Guiltfeeder

and Rise From the Grave

If you use a single Glimpse the Unthinkable and then attack with Guiltfeeder, it can deal a whopping 10 damage. I like to throw Whispersilk Cloak on it to make it unblockable and give it shroud.

If you have a discard deck, I'd recommend grabbing some of the Misers from the Saviors set in Kamigawa. They limit your opponent's hand size. Limit it enough and you can just use cards that say "Target player draws two cards" to have them draw stuff and then watch them discard their whole hand at the end of their turn. It's kinda hilarious.

Thanks for all the info! As I mentioned, I'm pretty new to MTG and would appreciate any comments you might have on my first deck. It is a discard deck that centers around Megrim, Warped Devotion, and cards that return cards to players hands.

Any comments (either here or on the deck comments) would be appreciated.

Thanks!
